COASTAL SKETCHBOOK
Sketching along coast of Cornwall is so rewarding. It is such a varied landscape with high cliffs, sandy beaches, fishing harbours, rivers and creeks. Often my sketches become oil paintings - a way of working I have developed over 30 years!
Sketching near Loe Bar
Oil sticks on Khadi paper. It was a cold May evening along a stretch of coastline just up from Loe Bar, not too far from the fishing harbour of Porthleven. The views are spectacular, it gave me the chance to sketch the vast space and atmospheric sky and sea.
The wind was quite rough so the clouds were racing by. The light was changing rapidly which provided me with a challenging but fun evening. I had to work very quickly - when I'm in the moment time just flies by!
